Using This Tutorial and Maximizing Student Performance on the ACA Test
helping your students prepare for the Adobe Certified Associate Test in Premiere Pro 2018
Using This Tutorial
This tutorial is a formative assessment. It's designed to help students study for the ACA test. It's not a substitute for the ACA test. Doing this tutorial should help students and teachers identify weaknesses or areas where the student is not prepared for the ACA test in Premiere Pro 2018. It probably isn't useful to use the grade on this tutorial as a class grade, unless it's for motivational purposes. But a teacher might find the simulation grade to be a useful "ticket out the door." You might, for instance, ask that your students earn a very high grade on this tutorial to demonstrate that they are ready for the ACA test itself. The simulation portions of this tutorial do count as test questions. Any time a student clicks in the wrong place a bit of feedback appears inside of a red box. The feedback is formative, to help the student understand what they did wrong. Each time that a student clicks on the wrong thing in this tutorial that counts as a wrong answer on a question. When students get to the score screen at the end of the multiple choice section they often wonder about why there are so many questions. The reason is that every slide in the simulation section counts as a question. One way to use this tutorial is to tell students that they aren't ready for the ACA test until they can perform every simulation perfectly - with no red boxes appearing. Students should be encouraged to do this simulation many times. The more they do it the more comfortable they will be on the actual test.
Tutorial and Test Format
The tutorial includes simulations and a multiple choice test. The simulations are designed to mimic the Adobe Premiere Pro 2018 interface as much as possible. The first time students interact with the tutorial it's encouraged to do the simulations in order. The first simulations walk them through identifying aspects of the APP 2018 interface, and later simulations will assume that they are comfortable in that workspace. Some simulations also include multiple steps, and earlier simulations will help prepare them for that. Once students are comfortable with the tutorial they can work the various parts of it in any order. The actual ACA test from Certiport uses the full Adobe Premiere Pro app. Students are given a task in Premiere, and then asked to use the software to perform that task. They can use any tools within Premiere to do it. The tutorial on this website only simulates that Premiere Pro 2018 experience.
How to Prepare for the ACA
Your students should have already completed a great deal of coursework in video production before taking the ACA test. Most high schools require that students have three years of video production classes, for instance. This tutorial is a useful way to prepare for the ACA test in Premiere Pro 2018. But there are many others. Certiport publishes lots of information about the actual test on their website. And Certiport also sells their own ACA test materials through Gmetrix. Here's some other ACA prep materials:
